About SAWIC & BE

South African Women in Construction (SAWIC & BE) is an organization that represents previously disadvantaged women in the construction sector. It advocates for the economic empowerment of women in the construction industry and built environment by lobbying relevant stakeholders, forming strategic partnerships, and working tirelessly to influence policies that drive transformation, gender equality, and SMME business development.

SAWIC & BE’s primary purpose is to unlock business opportunities and encourage more women to enter the building, civil, and electrical construction sectors—traditionally male-dominated industries. Established in 1997 by the late Minister of Public Works, Hon. Stella Sigcau, SAWIC & BE has grown to be a leading women in construction business chamber in all nine provinces. With more than 500 members across South Africa.
